Smart Cards:- The Smart Card is a Credit Card - sized
plastic card with one or more micro chips embedded in it. Smart Cards are
programmable, they contain a microprocessor chip and carry a large
database. The microprocessor manages the security entry to one or more
application databases. Smart Cards normally have a microprocessor, though
some have only memory The term Smart
Card is also applied to Plastic Cards that only contain memory and are
used for applications such as Coin replacement or units of inventory.
These integrated circuit read-only memory (IC ROM) cards, also called IC
Memory cards, have no programmability but contain a large amount of data.
They are similar in concept to magnetic stripe cards, but with IC
Cards the Data is hidden and the card can hold far more
data.
Smart Cards include
the contact based IC Chip modules ranging from Memory, Secure Memory and
Processor Cards

Magnetic
Stripe:- Magnetic
Stripe technology allows the storage of moderate amount of data in a small
area. A single magnetic stripe can have several tracks of recorded data.
Unlike some other forms of data storage, information on a magnetic
stripe card can be re-written and updated. The best known applications
of magnetic stripe are on credit and debit cards for use in automated
teller machines (ATMs) and Point-Of-Sales (POS) terminals. Magnetic stripes
are also used for access control to secured buildings, hotel rooms and
other facilities. Other uses are for time and attendance systems, inventory
tracking, personnel identification, amusement parks and games,
manufacturing process control, transit fare collection and vending.
Magnetic stripe includes ATM (Debit Cards) using HICO and LOCO Magnetic
