| RFID
Radio Frequency Identification System uses radio wave / electromagnetic wave as a medium. RFID is a highly reliable way to electronically control, detect and track a variety of items using FM transmission methods. A small tag, or transponder, affixed to or embedded into virtually any object individually identifies the object using a unique, factory-programmed, unalterable code. |

A RFID system has three
components:

| Tags/ Transponder | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The transponder, which represents the actual data-carrying device of an RFID system, normally consists of a coupling element and an electronic microchip. The mode of communication between the reader and the tag is wireless means air interface between the two. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Antennae | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
These are radio frequency devices designed to detect
and read intelligent tags to obtain the information stored on them. The
antenna generates a field of power to read the tag(s) within range. Each
tag generates its own signal to provide its unique data to the
antenna. |

| Reader (Read/write unit) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The read/write unit sends out a signal causing the
transponder to respond and transfer its own signal, containing an encoded
information. The transponder signal is decoded in the read/write unit and
sent to a selected control unit (e.g. host computer).
